Realizing that the résumé of my life is startlingly empty, and given that we all have just over three years to live, I've decided to start another blog. This blog will be written by a man who has, to this point, taken pride in living life to the emptiest. Those of you who know me will know what that means, and those of you who don't may find out soon enough.
If there were some method by which I could change the way my brain works, I would explore that option. What? There is? Ice pick lobotomy, you say. I'll take it under advisement. Seriously though, I am a person who is constantly annoyed by minutiae - things that everyone else just takes for granted, or totally ignores. I wish that I could. They say ignorance is bliss, and I remember how happy I was as a kid when I was blissfully ignorant of all the contradictions and irritations of real life. It is a bubble that half of my brain pines to return to. And the other half? It is responsible for me writing this blog. See, that half of my brain believes that I can correct all of the world's problems if I could just somehow convince everyone else that the things that I view as problems indeed are.
So what are the world's biggest problems? Hunger? War? Ideological differences? Hardly. Those are all just syptoms of a greater underlying cause. And that cause is stupidity. There is no question in my mind that the human race is getting dumber - and this issue is what may ultimately lead to our downfall. One of the problems is that our technology has advanced to the point that we have stopped evolving is a species. We are, in fact, devolving. Think about this: actions by a few individuals who may or may not be competent could, in a few minutes time, kill nearly everyone on the planet at any given moment. Do you think that's a good thing? And think about this: right now on the planet, somewhere, someone is having sex with a zebra. Which one of those things is worse? I don't know. But what I do know is that we're doomed unless I do something about it.
So how has technology made us dumber as a species, you ask? It throws natural selection out the window. So not only do the physically and mentally strong survive, but even the extremely weak, sick, deformed and mentally retarded survive - and not only survive, but procreate - which does nothing but cost money and use up time and resources that could be spent on more worthwhile endeavors, and continues the vicious circle. So look what we have now: Christmas, reality television, orthodontists, postal workers, performance enhancing drugs, religion, Paris Hilton - indeed, all the evils of society, all thanks to our devolution.
